Rivers/Water Resources/Coasts/Ports

SERVICE

Surrounded on all sides by the ocean, Japan has mountainous terrain that receives a large amount of rainfall, and its population and assets are concentrated in flood inundation areas that cover only 10 percent of the country's land. As a consulting engineer, we offer comprehensive proposals (including surveys, analyses, experiments, planning, design, and maintenance) for disaster countermeasures for floods, droughts, tsunamis, and storm surges; watershed hydrology; seismic countermeasures for river management and coastal protection facilities; and the development of port and marine infrastructure.

  • Comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation measures for rivers and coasts that address the entire watershed
  • Planning, experimentation, design, and maintenance planning for river, coastal, port, and marine facilities
  • Conservation and improvement of the water environment and water cycle
  • Restoration and creation of waterfront spaces by restoring and maintaining river environments
  • Assessing the soundness/aging of existing facilities, and the formulation of plans to extend service life
  • Verification of the seismic performance of structures and studies on rational seismic reinforcement methods

Dams

SERVICE

Dams are important infrastructures that store water to ensure that people live safe, secure and comfortable lives. Dams control floods, provide irrigation, help to conserve river environments, and generate hydroelectric power, among other functions. In addition to the planning and design of new dams, we utilize our extensive knowledge as a consulting engineer to propose a wide range of solutions for using existing dams more effectively and coping with environmental changes caused by dam construction, spanning all aspects of the process from planning to management.

  • Evaluation of facility soundness (including seismic performance) based on the latest technologies
  • Inspection and evaluation of facilities and their functions, and maintenance planning
  • Measures to improve dam functionality, such as the upgrading of discharge and power generation facilities (mechanical measures) and discharge operation (non-mechanical measures)
  • Sediment and water quality management plans, fish passage and other environmental conservation plans

Sabo

SERVICE

We help to prevent and mitigate disasters caused by the movement of large amounts of sediment, such as debris flows, landslides, and slope collapses caused by heavy rains and earthquakes, as well as lava flows, pyroclastic flows, and mudflows caused by volcanic eruptions. From the perspective of a consulting engineer, we can propose comprehensive sediment disaster countermeasures to ensure the safety and security of the community, including disaster surveys and forecasts; planning, design, and maintenance of erosion control facilities such as check dams and stream protection works; as well as non-mechanical measures.

  • Basic erosion control and facility layout plans, designs for erosion control facilities
  • Studies on comprehensive countermeasures for sediment disasters associated with volcanic eruptions
  • Analysis, planning, and design for landslide and slope erosion countermeasures
  • Design of countermeasures to extend the service life and prevent aging of erosion control facilities
  • Studies on the layout and configuration of erosion control facilities, utilizing hydraulic experiments
  • Simulation analysis of sediment/flood inundation and large-scale sediment disasters, and studies on countermeasures
  • Surveys and studies on non-structural sediment disaster countermeasures such as hazard maps and rainfall criteria for warning and evacuation orders

Water Supply & Sewerage

SERVICE

Water supply and sewerage systems directly improve human lives by supplying safe and delicious water (maintaining our health), treating sewage (protecting the environment), and removing rainwater (preventing disasters). As a consulting engineer, we aim to reduce the cost of water supply and sewerage management by providing professional services encompassing the design of pipes, drains, and related facilities; evaluation of the seismic performance of related structures; design of aseismic reinforcement works; detection of structural degradation; and formulation of asset management plans.

  • Measures to reduce renewal project costs and maintenance costs through the consolidation, reorganization, and regional expansion of water supply facilities
  • Comprehensive inundation countermeasures utilizing hydraulic model testing
  • Improvement and enhancement of the water environment by reducing the amount of pollution, utilizing water resources effectively, and purifying bodies of contaminated water
  • Economical and appropriate maintenance measures for continuous, long-term water supply and sewerage services
  • Proposals for the utilization of resources and energy in sewerage systems

Mechanical & Electrical Equipment

SERVICE

In addition to civil engineering technologies, mechanical and electrical equipment are essential to maximize the functioning of infrastructure such as floodgates, sluice gates, weirs, and drainage pump stations in river systems; dam discharge facilities; and water treatment facilities for water supply and sewerage systems. We propose optimal equipment plans, maintenance plans, and performance improvement plans for mechanical and electrical equipment to meet society's changing needs.

  • Planning and design of mechanical equipment for weirs, floodgates, locks, sluice pipes, sluice gates, floodwall gates, and drainage pump stations in river systems
  • Planning and design of mechanical equipment for principal and emergency spillways, water intake and discharge facilities, and mooring facilities in dams
  • Expansion of discharge facilities, and modification and renewal of mechanical equipment due to dam redevelopment
  • Planning and design of water treatment plant equipment, pump equipment, and ventilation equipment
  • Planning and design of power receivers, transformers, private power generation equipment, and monitoring and control systems
  • Proposals for maintaining functionality, improving performance, renewing and repairing existing facilities
