29 June 2018 CTI wins Prestigious Academic Society Awards
CTI is pleased to have won several prestigious awards from the pre-eminent Japanese civil engineering societies, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers and the Japan Society of Dam Engineers.
Awards from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers
The Tanaka Award recognises outstanding achievements and contributions to the advancement of the field of bridge engineering and was awarded to CTI for the repair work on the Aso-Choyo bridge. The great bridge sustained severe damage following the Kumamoto earthquake in 2016 and needed to be repaired as soon as possible due to its indispensable use by local residents. CTI was commissioned to design the superstructure and substructure of the bridge adopting many technical ingenuities. The bridge reopened just one year and four months after the earthquake.
In addition to the Tanaka Award, two prestigious International Awards were given to CTI’s experts, Mr Takayuki Tsuchida and Mr Shrestha Robinson for their continuous devotion to infrastructure projects in developing countries, which have contributed to local human resources development as well as the improvement of civil engineering technology. Mr Kazuaki Nirei received a Lifetime Technical Achievement Award for his contribution to the industry throughout his career.
Awards from the Japan Society of Dam Engineers
CTI is also pleased to have won two Advanced Technology Awards by the Japan Society of Dam Engineers for their work on the Asakawa Dam and Kanaji Dam construction projects. Furthermore, CTI’s Mr Kenzo Kusahana received a specific award acknowledging a scientific article, for which he was the co-author, detailing the three-dimensional movement analysis of the arch of the Dam’s during the earthquake.
CTI’s team involved in the Asakawa Dam construction received considerable praise for; the assessment of the bedrock profile and surface carried out under a tight time frame; the efficient construction methods using of pre-cast elements; and the appropriate environment management measures.
