KOREA WATER RESOURCES ASSOCIATION (KWRA)

The Republic of Korea is considered to be a country with serious water management problems. The country suffers from serious water deficiencies for its hydrological system. This causes drastic water cycles, from serious droughts to severe floods. This situation has worsened since the 1960s due to, increasing water demand caused by the country's rapid industrialization. Water-related problems hinder the normal development of the country and improving the livelihood of the people.

The Korea Water Resources Association (KWRA) was established in 1967 in order to resolve the serious water issues the country faces. The KWRA has over 2,500 individual members and several member-organizations that specialize in different fields. Also, the KWRA is continuously expanding its relations with similar organizations from other countries.

Its prime objective is "To contribute to academic development regarding the Earth water, and also to public welfare."

KWRA organizes annual conferences where many representatives from many countries have the opportunity to present their new technologies and result of research.

In the 2005 Chapter of KWRA (May 2005), CTI had the opportunity to present "Water and Water Transportation in Nihonbashi River", a study done by Dr. ITO, Kazumasa head-chief of Planning office of the CTI Research Center for Sustainable Communities. This study presents the methods used to reinforce and recover the river's water environment.
