The Ohta River located in the Shizuoka prefecture is 44 km long and affects an area of 488 km2 . The population of this area is 280,000, which makes this one of the most important rivers in the entire prefecture. Unfortunately, natural disasters and deficiencies in the structures built in the past have caused floods and, repeated breaks in dikes. For this reason a new dam structure was required for better management of the Ohta River. At the same time, the population growth in recent years, requires new water sources and power supply.

For these reasons, the construction of a new multipurpose dam was decided on, and construction began in 2004. It is scheduled to be fully operational in early 2009.

The arched dam wall is 70 m high and 290 m long. The dam has a maximum reservoir capacity of 6 million m3. An infrastructure project of this magnitude, required a detailed and exhaustive analysis of the ground where the dam was going to be built, to prevent structural failure caused by the movement of the base. CTI has being in charge of geotechnical analysis for the dam base and dam wall construction for this magnificent Project.
