Sayamaike Dam - Diversion of Ancient Irrigation Pond into Flood Control Reservoir

Sayamaike is a very famous irrigation man-made pond which is said to be one of the oldest in Japan. Located in the city of Osakasayama in the Osaka Prefecture, approximately 1,400 years old, this reservoir collects the water from Nishiyoke river and served as an important water source to the region. In resent years this ancient reservoir owes a new role as part of the flood control system for Osaka Prefecture.

CTI was in charge of the strengthening works to improve the capacity of Sayamaike reservoir up to 1,000,000 m3 by dredging the lake bottom and rising the levees. In the present the levees has a height of 18.5 m and a capacity to hold 2,800,000 m3 of water, serving as Flood control and water irrigation system.
