Vane Works in Miyagi Prefecture

As a new method for river flow control, “Vane Works,” have been developed to prevent excess scouring of river beds. The principle of this method is to induce secondary spiral flow and reduce high stream speeds where scouring occurs with several vane panels, which are installed in a specified order. The method is based on a new principle, which utilizes the nature of river flow. This is an advance from conventional methods such as revetments and foot protections that work only as protectors against oncoming streams in a passive way. Using vane works requires the expertise and capability to precisely simulate river bed sedimentation and actual scouring phenomena with numerical models and to design the vanes with the most appropriate shape and distribution pattern by using the same model calculation. CTI has provided many users with excellent results.
