Consolidation of Hydro-Meteorological Date and Multi-Functional Hydrologic Roles of Tonle Sap Lake and Its Vicinities (Basinwide)
Information Technology
Cambodia 2003
The Tonle Sap Lake is the largest fresh water lake in South Asia and has a unique geology, changing the total area from 2,500km2 to 15,000 km2 between the dry season and the rain season. Because of this drastic change, the floodplain is annually enriched by nutrients from the sediments, supporting the rich biodiversity and the agricultural production of Cambodia.
The objectives for this project were to obtain accurate data to identify the water flows in the floodplain of the Mekong River basin, and to elaborate a data base with hydrologic modeling and analysis to make available for the suitable development and management of the existing and future projects in the floodplain.
