The Ganga River has been remarkably polluted due to rapid population growth and increasing human and industrial activities in these years. Environmental management focusing on the water quality management has become an urgent requirement.

To solve this environmental problem, a study was conducted, focusing on mitigation of the river water pollution. The study covered sewerage system improvement, drainage system improvement, capacity development, institutional strengthening and technology transfer.
