What is "トラプロ" data?

Data overview

"トラプロ" data (truck probe data) is data that enables users to understand the driving conditions of freight trucks. It is obtained from suppliers of digital tachographs and other on-board monitoring devices.

Driving data such as time and geographic coordinates are collected via GPS-equipped on-board monitoring devices installed in freight trucks and stored in a data center via the cell phone communications network. This probe data (trajectory information) is normally used by cargo owners and freight forwarders to manage the operation of freight trucks. We extract and anonymize a portion of this data so that it can be used for traffic analysis.

Probe data is obtained at a constant frequency as well as whenever special events occur, such as when a driver applies the emergency brakes, for the entire time the on-board monitoring device is in operation. This enables users to gain a continuous and comprehensive understanding of the operational status of freight trucks and traffic conditions. For this reason, it is possible to conduct various types of traffic analysis according to the user’s objectives, which may have many advantages such as reducing survey costs and enhancing the quality or quantity of information.

"トラプロ" data covers all of Japan. We have been able to accumulate data from about 10,000 freight trucks, covering about 600 million kilometers nationwide in one year. We process this vast amount of driving data into highly credible data suitable for traffic analysis and provide it to you.
