The Order of the Rising Sun is awarded to individuals who boast outstanding achievements in various social fields. Japan's order system started with the Order of the Rising Sun, which was based on the following notice promulgated in April of 1875: Kunsho Jugun Kisho Seitei no Ken (literally: Notice Concerning the Establishment of Military Medals of Honor) (proclamation number 54 of the Dajokan (Great Council of State)).
