CTI Engineering selected as a candidate for the Yunishigawa Dam New Hydropower Plant Construction and Operation Project

Technology & Research

A consortium of five companies led by TEPCO Renewable Power, Inc. and including NTT Anode Energy Corporation, CTI Engineering Co., Ltd., KAJIMA CORPORATION, and Tobishima Corporation (called the consortium below) was selected by the Kinugawa Dam Integrated Management Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's (MLIT) Kanto Regional Development Bureau as a candidate for the Yunishigawa Dam New Hydropower Plant Construction and Operation Project on October 27, following the consortium's submission of its proposal in response to a public invitation.

The project is the first hybrid dam initiative that simultaneously strengthens flood-control functions and promotes hydropower generation in alignment with MLIT policy. The project will be implemented at the Yunishigawa Dam in Tochigi Prefecture in response to a public invitation issued last December and will be the first such project at a dam managed by the MLIT in Japan.

The Yunishigawa Dam New Hydropower Plant aims to begin operation in fiscal 2030. Going forward, the consortium will add INPEX CORPORATION to form a six-company joint entity (called the joint entity below) and will move ahead with discussions to conclude a basic agreement with the MLIT.

Guided by its vision of creating a sustainable future with local communities through new energy, the joint entity will participate in the project to promote carbon neutrality by effectively utilizing the dam's previously untapped hydropower resources and work to develop the region where the dam is located.
